As the world’s leading independent organization for children, Save the Children strives to achieve the vision of a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development, and participation.
VoLo’s grant has aided programs focused on response efforts to Venezuela’s ongoing humanitarian crisis in the states of Miranda, Carabobo, Lara, Sucre, Zulia, and Caracas Capital District. Through this partnership with Save the Children, critical support has been provided to 98,800 individuals, of whom 53,000 – 54% – were children. Funding helps to maximize the impact of programs that provide food and nutrition services, focus on access to education, and address children’s need to be protected through mental health and psychological support.
In collaboration with Fe y Alegría, Save the Children has been working to distribute food baskets each month to support the nutritional well-being of students at seven schools and their families, improve students’ educational outcomes, and encourage continuous school attendance. The schools are in departments with the highest rates of school absenteeism, the highest poverty rates, and have substantial portions of students with nutritional risks or who are in the care of someone other than their parents.
Save the Children’s child protection program created 15 community committees to raise awareness of the risks faced by children. Over 60% of committee members have been trained in working with communities to elevate the visibility of child protection issues and concerns. Five child-friendly spaces for crisis-affected children have been opened and serve approximately 900 registered adolescents. To date, some 4,700 children and adolescents have directly or indirectly benefited from these activities.
